Portfolio Redesign

A self-initiated redesign focused on improving the usability, structure, and case study presentation of my design portfolio.

Tools: Wix

Role: UX/UI Design, Visual Design

Duration: 1-2 weeks

Project Summary

This project focused on redesigning my personal portfolio to better showcase my design work and communicate my process more clearly.

The previous version of my portfolio presented projects visually but lacked structure and clear storytelling. The redesign aimed to improve navigation, project hierarchy, and the way case studies were presented to better reflect my development as a designer.

The Challenge

The main challenge was transforming an existing portfolio into a clearer and more professional presentation of my work.

  • Limited explanation of the design process

  • Weak visual hierarchy between projects

  • Inconsistent project structure

  • Difficulty quickly understanding the purpose of each project

The goal was to redesign the portfolio so that recruiters could quickly understand my work and design approach.

Audit of the Previous Portfolio

Issue Identified

The landing page contained minimal information and did not immediately showcase any of my projects. Visitors were required to click a separate button to access my work, which created an unnecessary extra step in the user journey. For recruiters and hiring managers who typically scan portfolios quickly, this structure made it harder to immediately evaluate my work and design capabilities.

Improvement Goal

Redesign the landing page to feature selected projects directly on the homepage, allowing visitors to instantly see examples of my work without needing additional navigation. This improves accessibility, reduces friction in the user journey, and ensures my work is immediately visible to recruiters.

Issue identified

The project page relied heavily on long paragraphs of text, which made the information difficult to scan. The lack of clear section headings and a structured layout reduced readability and made it harder to follow the design process.

Improvement goal

Break content into clear sections (summary, research, design approach, outcome) to improve readability and storytelling.

Issue identified

The introduction contained large blocks of text, which made the section visually dense and harder for readers to quickly understand key information about my background and skills.

Improvement goal

Condense the content into shorter paragraphs and highlight key information such as skills, interests, and design focus.

Audit Finding

  • Projects lacked clear descriptions

  • Important information was difficult to scan

  • The visual hierarchy between titles and content was inconsistent

  • Case studies focused mainly on final visuals instead of the process, and were very essay-based descriptions

Design Approach

To address these issues, I redesigned the portfolio with a focus on clarity, structure, and storytelling.

Key improvements included:

  • Creating a consistent case study format for all projects

  • Adding project summaries and metadata (tools, role, duration)

  • Improving visual hierarchy through typography and spacing

  • Simplifying the navigation and layout structure

The goal was to make the portfolio easier to scan while better communicating my design thinking.

Before vs After

In the redesigned version, the landing page now displays featured projects directly on the homepage. Each project is clearly presented and easy to click, allowing visitors to quickly explore my work without additional navigation. This improves accessibility and ensures that my projects are immediately visible to recruiters.

The redesigned project pages use a clean white background to improve readability and create a more professional and minimal aesthetic. Improved spacing and clearer layout structure allow the content to breathe and guide the reader through the project. The new structure also highlights my design thinking by clearly presenting sections such as the project summary, research, design approach, and outcomes.

In the redesigned version, the content was simplified into shorter sentences and clearer sections. This improved readability and made the page easier to scan, allowing visitors to quickly understand my background, design focus, and skills. The layout was also tidied with improved spacing and hierarchy, creating a cleaner and more professional presentation.

Outcome

The updated portfolio provides a clearer and more structured presentation of my work.

Key improvements include:

  • clearer case study storytelling

  • improved readability and hierarchy

  • stronger visual consistency across projects

The redesign allows my projects to better communicate both the final outcomes and the design thinking behind them.

Reflection

This project helped me understand the importance of designing not only individual projects but also the way work is presented.

Through this redesign, I learned how small adjustments to layout, hierarchy, and content structure can significantly improve the clarity and usability of a portfolio.
